This builds upon the bug fix in #926 .
#926 mostly fixed the issue, but there was an edge case it still neglected: when the deleted key was earlier than the first on-disk key, and never existed on disk.
This PR contains a fix as well as a test for this behavior and the more mild version of the bug, as seen in #926 .
