Assembly Failed to load with Oqtane Server

Hi,

I am getting the error as shown in the attached image.

This happens within the class - public static class OqtaneServiceCollectionExtensions

And in the - private static IServiceCollection AddOqtaneServices(this IServiceCollection services)

Any thoughts?

Oqtane version: 6.2.1
VS 2022: version 17.14.20

I compiled the code which was built successfully. Ran it and got the message. One thing that has happened recently (2 days ago) is that I did an upgraded to VS 2022 but I am reasonably sure I have run the application since then.

The message says it is trying to load Microsoft.Extensions.Hosting.Abstractions version 10.0.0 - however you said that you are using Oqtane 6.2.1 on VS 2022 - which is .NET 9. Did you recently pull the latest code from the Dev branch? If so, it has been upgraded to .NET 10 which means that your environment needs to be upgraded.

I restarted my work with Oqtane on the 10th October having shelved it for several months. I downloaded v 6.2.1. then and have been compiling my project since then with no issues.

The only signifigant thing that seems to have changed in my update to VS2022 17.14.20 about 2 days ago.

At the time of that update I did notice that VS2026 was available but needed .NET 10 and I immediately decided not to go with these updates.

So, I don't believe I downloaded a dev branch and if I had I presume I woulsd not have been able to compile my project since the 10th of October.

1. Close all instance of Oqtane projects in Visual Studio.
2. Open your Oqtane instance you are referencing and give that a full compile in debug and release. Close the solution.
3. Open you Oqtane project solution and compile.

Are there any extensions installed - either developed by you or installed from the Marketplace?

OOPS! Forgot to recompile the Oqtane instance with .NET 10

My project now compiles and runs without the original assembly find issue. However, every single page/module I have created generates a "Error Loading Module" event!!

I will continue to investigate.

Installation package with my own module generated by the Oqtane Framework

I have installed one theme from the Marketplace (which I am not using) and which (when I went to my project to recollect which one) seems to have disappeared as it is not available in the Theme dropdown! Which is worrying.

Is it possible that the recompile of the Oqtane instance has reset some entries in the database related to my Module, Pages and the Theme?

Yipe, All my pages are generating a "Critical Error" after my initial assembly loading problem and my upgrade to VS 2026 and .NET 10. All were working ok before these upgrades!

I have done a bit of investigation and cannot find out what is causing this. The database records for modules and pages seem to be ok.

The type of error in the logs is (does this give anyone any clues as to what is causing the issue) :-

It is very difficult to understand the current state of your environment based on the information in this thread. This is my understanding:

• I don't know if you are using a local dev machine or remote hosted environment
• you initially had an installation of 6.2.1 on .NET 9. It was installed using an Install package - which means you did not have the full Oqtane framework source code installed locally
• you had created a custom module. I am not sure how you did this without a full installation of the Oqtane framework source code?
• then you installed Vs2026 and .NET 10
• it sounds like you also downloaded the latest Oqtane source code. I assume this was from the Dev branch - which is based on .NET 10. I am not sure if you extracted the source code over top of the previous installation or put it in a new folder?
• you compiled the source code and ran it

Is this correct? If so, there are a lot of potential problems due to the inconsistency in approaches, the locations of artifacts, etc...

• I am using a local dev machine
• Apologies for the confusion, I did download the code (not a dev branch and not a install package). I compiled it (v6.2.1 VS 2022 17.14.10)
• I have not downloaded any other version of Oqtane
• I created my module
• This was on 10th Oct and I have been running, developing my module since then with out the assembly loading issue (up until I logged this issue)
• Before the issues occured I upgraded to VS 17.14.20 - I believe I have run my app successfully after this upgrade
• Not sure when but I downloaded a theme from the MarketPlace before the upgrade to VS
• Up until I logged this issue I remained on v6.2.1 and VS 2022 v17.14.10
• There was no VS 2026 nor .NET 10 implemented on my dev machine until 2 days ago
• I only decided to upgrade to VS 2026 and .NET10 after logging this issue and realising the assembly loading was related to a version 10 assembly (this may not have been the right decision)

And I now have the problem that all of my new pages (around 12) generate a critical error.

So I have a bit of investigation to do.

Given the above my initial question is , assuming I did not have my initial issue related to the v10 assembly loading issue, should an Oqtane enviroment (including my new module) created using v 6.2.1 work under VS 2026 and .NET 10

OR

Have I created a new issue/situation because I should have upgraded to a newer version of Oqtane that uses .NET 10.

BTW I notice that a new version (10) was released yesterday which seems to have skipped a few version numbers)

Pending any progress with my v6.2.1, .NET9.0 and VS2022. I thought I need to make some progress with my dev project so I started experimenting.

I downloaded Oqtane v10, .NET10 and VS2026.

I was able to successfully implement a working version of Oqtane using an MS SQL database. However, trying the same using an MySQL databse resulted in the general database access error. I knew my access credentials for MySQL were ok as I have been able to connect using MySQL Workbench using the credentials.

However, a bit of debugging reveal that the Pomelo.EntityFrameWorkCore.MySql was the actual source of the problem. All the other database frameworks (MS SQL, PostgreSQL and SQLLite) seem to have v10 packages but the Pomelo framework has only a v9 available (and also MySql.Data is at v9.5) and no pre-releases.

I did notice in your blog for v10 that there were known issues with MySQL and PostgreSQL and that error messages could be safely ignored. The problem is that in my case the Install process cannot proceed after the error!

Given my experimentation above is it safe to assume that until a v10 of Pomelo is available it will not be possible to implement v10 of Oqtane using and MySQL database? Or is there a work around given your blog comments about updates to MySQL libraries?

Both MySQL and PostgreSQL have not released native .NET 10 versions of their libraries yet... so if you need to use those specific databases in your installation and you need to use .NET 10, you will need to wait until compatible versions are available. Or you can install Oqtane 6.2.1 for .NET 9 and use it instead.
