Test fails on non-Intel architectures: Failure ('test_raw.R:31:3'): Making sure the 'char' matrix behaves like signed byt

Hi,
after packaging version 4.6.4 one test of the Debian packaged bigmemory is failing on all non-Intel architectures. You can see all failed architectures marked red on our tracker page. If you follow those links you find according log files showing:

── Failure ('test_raw.R:31:3'): Making sure the 'char' matrix behaves like signed byte ──
 mchar[1:3, 1] not equal to c(40, -123, NA).
 2/3 mismatches (average diff: NaN)
 [2]  NA - -123 == NA
 [3] 190 -   NA == NA

Hi!

bigmemory passes the tests on CRAN's arm64 platforms, which all run on MacOS. On Linux it fails on arm64 and a lot of other architectures. In my understanding, char is signed on macos-arm64 and linux amd64 (x86_64) and unsigned on linux arm64. Would it solve the problem if bigmemory would pass -fsigned-char to the compilers?
