Status of the project?

Given that the project has been stalled for almost 3 years, it would be a good idea to state its current status in the README.

• Is it abandoned?
• Replaced by something else?
• Or just "paused" for some time?

I bought a DELL XPS 7390 2-in-1 and was unpleasantly surprised by it having integrated this driverless IPU4 solution.

Is it a dead end on Linux?

@lkraav I have been unable to find any further pointers about this. If you don't happen to have a deep understanding of the technicalities, and feel able to develop these drivers from scratch (and with no documentation or support from Intel, apparently) then I'd say yes, you should either use a different laptop, an external cam, or switch to the Dell-approved operating system. I was bitten by this myself, thinking the "2 in 1" couldn't make such a huge difference, and the XPS 13 developer edition has superb support after all, right? 😐
FWIW, I'm torn on who I want to blame more for this mess, Dell or Intel... Happy to take suggestions 😛

Not Intel, nor Dell (who is a big consumer of that specific hardware) seem to care at all. They did not respond to any of my comments on the topic I made through other social networks, such as Twitter.

The current state of things is quite sad, it's not like we were asking for free development, we already paid for the affected products. If they consider it's not a worthy investment, at least they could tell us openly, or provide some minimal documentation to help others advance on this.

Frankly for me this whole experience is simply a learning experience. The next high-power machine will be AMD & linux only, and the next laptop is an mnt reform. I'm pretty much done with closed source BS

True. Also looking forward to DELL packaging an XPS-like experience on top of Ryzen.
