Issue with splitting Unicode characters?

For some reason, irc.reply() doesn't like Unicode.
Happens only with long messages (longer than 512bytes total)
This was the message that was having this problem (taken from Todo on the bot, since shortened to work around the bug):

All you need is irc.privmsg, use the message above. The total max length should be more than 512bytes
