cannot connect to blutooth devices on ubuntu

I am trying to connect my adorime but it just won't show up in the devices list even on android.
On linux native I get nothing in the device list, not even my controller, but I do get logs showing devices that don't end up in the list and an error that says "Device errored while trying to connect : Device type specific error: Btleplug error: Other(DbusError(D-Bus error: Timeout Waiting for reply (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Timeout)))."
And weirdly launching in wine does let my controller connect and I can see AX05 (the name of the adorime) in the log but it still doesn't show up in the devices list.
Any tips?
