Autoconf / Automake commands

Does anyone have the preferred automake / autoconf commands used when changing the configure.ac file?

If you're just changing configure.ac, running autoconf should be sufficient (the last version we used was 2.72). If you prefer to just submit a PR for the .ac file only, I can handle the autoconf and other steps if needed.

After changing configure.ac I run autoreconf -i -f -s; ./configure ; make |& tee make.log .
